Who Should Receive Surgical Therapy For Graves’ Disease?

From the guidelines of the American Thyroid Association:

  • Planning pregnancy within six months
  • Orbitopathy or Graves’ eye disease
  • Low iodine uptake
  • Suspected thyroid cancer
  • Large nodules or enlarged thyroid (goiter)
  • Patients with high TRAb antibody levels
  • Patients with hyperparathyroidism (increased calcium from an overactive parathyroid gland)
